Early religions were animistic. Animals and plants were sacred. Once we settled and built our first granaries, the agrarian life changed our religions to include gods that would protect our crops from pestilence and save us from famine. We domesticated animals and they became “less than.”

Today is an extension and a deepening of that disconnection.
