For my money, this "higher awareness" is the understanding that life is deterministic. Cause and effect shapes everyone and everything and "free will" is a mythic oxymoron. There is no vacuum of existence in which anything is "free" of antecedent causes.

"Evil" is another ambiguous, unscientific term, like love or God, that we use to categorize something we don't really understand. But when we consider determinism, we can see "evil" as really something which may arise from unfavorable conditions. Child neglect, trauma, poverty, a neurological disorder, a tumor pressing on the amygdala, deprivation, a cry for help.
