Hi Berna,
Thanks for reading and commenting.
"Death, destruction, or some other terrible fate." -- That's the definition of doom (as a noun) when I look it up.
That's exactly what's already happening and going to happen.
And as a verb, doom means to "condemn to certain destruction or death."
That's what we're doing to our future selves and generations. I'm not optimistic we can turn that around. It's only a matter of degree (literally and figuratively) when it happens.
And how bad it is? Maybe we don't hit the brick wall at 80mph, but 75 is still bad.
I'm almost fifty years old. In my life I've seen it go from climate denialism, to: okay, climate is changing but it's natural, to: okay, it's human-caused but we can fix it.
The next phase for people is: we've altered the planet inexorably and are not doing enough now, right now, to stave off the worst effects. We should be scared, we should be planning / prepping. We can still do all the things like switch to hybrid for our next car (no sense throwing away the one that was already built) and cutting out meat and dairy, etc. ... but come on. Have you seen the world? It's huge! And very few people are really and truly even aware of the situation, let along doing anything about it.
To paraphrase the departed, "We're all on our way out. Act accordingly."
Kind regards,
TJ
