Hi Don, thanks for your clever comment. I'm not sure I see the parity to religious zealotry, though. The person I spoke with was suggesting emergency stopgap measures to buy us a little time, then affordable low-carbon alternatives to keep us going. A religious person is more likely to say, "Relax and sit back, God will handle it. Please pass the oil."
The preponderance of glacial geography and climate science says we're losing ice at an accelerated and unprecedented rate. Wanting to pull out the stops to keep civilizational infrastructure from collapsing in the very near future is a rational, humanitarian response.
