Hi Frederick, thanks for reading. Your sarcasm is a bit strong, so I'll hope to clarify: you're saying that further investigation into the origin of Covid will cause violence and killing. And that the only reason there's still any investigation is for "juicy stories."
I'm not sure that's right. Scientists from Harvard, MIT, Stanford, etc., calling for a new "real" investigation into the origin aren't journalists looking for juicy stories; they're virologists and biologists and researchers. We need them to have as clear-eyed a view as possible of the disease. It helps all of us.
As far as the violence and killing, I have to assume you mean stemming from anti-Asian sentiment. Nowhere in my article nor in any of my links is there even a suggestion that a lab-grown virus was weaponized, i.e. intentional. Verbal or physical assaults on Asian Americans are terrible, and anyone doing so because they think Asians sponsored the virus are morons (likely Trump morons). But we can't NOT investigate the origins of a global virus because of Trump morons. We're still learning about this disease, particularly its long-term effects.
One study https://www.medpagetoday.com/infectiousdisease/covid19/91270 found that a third of people who'd gotten the disease had long term effects, such as persistent breathing problems, chronic fatigue, disorientation, and worse. --That's millions of people.
The more we nail down the origin of the virus, the better we'll be to treat both long-term sufferers, new patients, and the better we'll be able to understand disease variants. Also incredibly important: the more we understand how this began, the more equipped we'll be to prevent it from happening again, and from being even worse.
