I tend to avoid worrying about the things that are supposed to garner likes and clicks and make money because it can become a race to the bottom. But I'm fortunate to be in this position because I already have a career. In answer to your question, my two most popular articles are about determinism (how free will is a myth) and plant-based eating. They probably got traction because they're both controversial subjects, and also that they were published by Medium publications (though one -- Food Love Stories -- has disappeared). Also, the plant-based one in particular was heavily revised before publishing. I tried to be funny and self-effacing, too, since food is such a highly personal matter. Anyway, those are my two cents.
