I'd blame cultural factors, implicit bias, retail politics and partisan profiteering in the media -- really anything -- before I'd suggest biology driving our ideological differences. That's kind of scarily like eugenics.
But I do think we can look to biology, at least, psychology, to at least partly account for how gaining wealth tends to change attitudes. Studies have shown this to be the case, anyway.
I'm just saying I could imagine it changing me, too. Perhaps I'm admitting a deficit of character. I'm a recovering addict, for one thing. Surely there are people who would stay just as kind and generous and empathetic no matter how much wealth they acquire.
