It's amazing how you can say all this without a hint of awareness that it works the other way, too. Telling people that the problem is being worked on, that it won't that bad, innovation will save us, etc. breeds complacency.

For every "doom porn" writer monetizing climate anxiety with their content, there are "hope changey" writers monetizing the antidote.

What's worrying is this balkanization of media / social media, the endless divying people up into two sides of every issue. We need to rise above that, ESPECIALLY if we are make any meanginful impact on climate change.

Climate change is here, we're in the sixth mass extinction, food shortages and mass migration are in the offing, yet we're increasing emissions and consumption and urbanization. We can and should try to mitigate - every half a degree of warming counts! - but we also ought to be smart and start adapting, because capitalism doesn't really "do" sustainability.
