Nanie, I want to give this a few hundred claps.
I am right there with you. I've been feeling unmotivated to write because, at the moment, I feel like I've said everything I have to say. And because, like you, I tend to be moderate.
This is a time of outrage and hyperbole, exactly as you point out. We're encouraged by the algorithm to find a niche and just hammer away at it. We're encouraged to put out "content." The more that content takes a hard view and is loud and abrasive, the better.
This infects our thinking. Everything becomes bifurcated and adversarial. On every issue, you're either A or B. And the technology that supports this -- the internet, the algorithm -- has real existential consequences. It affects and shapes our culture, which affects and shapes our politics, which affects and shapes our very laws.
I digress! This was so refreshing to read, Nanie. It's great to know you're out there. :)
