No, prepping / self-reliance is not the key to fixing climate change. I agree individual action won't "cut it." But I'm not making that claim. And rigorous prepping can definitely raise one's chances of survival more than "infinitesimally."

For the vast majority of time humans have been on the planet, we've been self-reliant. There's been trade and collectivism of varying sorts, but obviously our forebears were able to fend for themselves, long before industrialization, electrification, supermarkets and our myriad modern conveniences. Many millions still live this way.

I'm not romanticizing it -- subsistence living is brutal -- but someone, today, who has three acres of arable land on a river, a few chickens, goats, and a cow, has chance of survival approaching 100%, independent of consumer living. Compare that to someone living in an inner city, or the suburbs, having never learned to grow a vegetable or skin a rabbit, my money is on the "prepper."
