Parikshit, thanks so much for reading and commenting. I have no problem setting aside the "I" when I set aside the concept of free will. I don't think there *is* free will.

But there is still a locus of my perception, and that's the brain. It's the no-self concept I struggle with. You address that in your other comment -- thanks for that one, too!
