There are lots of reasons why people aren't fully embracing the collapse mentality. 1.) Evolutionary psychology (prioritizing acute short term problems over abstract long term ones), 2.) Big oil propaganda, 3.) Social-media-driven cognitive dissonance. 4.) Techno-optimism. 5.) Climate change is a hyper object with evolving science that's hard for many people to wrap their minds around.
To name just a few.
I'll pick out number 3, because twice you mention how the media isn't covering climate change. The exact opposite is cited by climate deniers and skeptics, that the media cover climate constantly because destruction and fear are good for ratings.
