Whenever I read something like this, though I'm nodding along, thinking yes-yes-yes, I wince at the implication that it's all been planned. Maybe there's no such implication here, and my brain instead takes the lack of disclaimer as an implication. But I don't think any of this was planned. I don't believe in some evil mustache-twirling cabal of oligarchs who set out to rape and pillage the natural world and stick us all in virtual reality as it crumbled. Instead, its simply how business works. How incentives works. How life goes when profit, not resources, are at center. And everyone whoever uttered the words "It's not personal; it's just business," is complicit.
